PlanningA major reason that stakeholder engagement processes fail is due to a lack of preparation. Setting a vision and level of ambition for any engagement is a key step, as is identifying and prioritising stakeholders. These are followed by focusing on short and long term goals, setting the 'rules of engagement' and getting an understanding of the logistics involved.

EvaluationIt is important to understand how effective an engagement process has been and to this end evaluation is an explicit part of the design for any stakeholder engagement process.
